Introduction
Yes, you can update a video brochure after it has been produced. The simplest method is loading a new video file through the brochure’s USB connection. For campaigns that need content to stay current after delivery, NFC can point recipients to updated online material from their phone.
Those are two different jobs. USB changes the video stored on the brochure itself. NFC updates the linked digital destination, such as a landing page, product page, appointment calendar, or fresh campaign video. We help clients use both when the campaign calls for it.
How USB Video Loading Works
Every rechargeable video brochure includes internal memory and a USB port. Connect it to a computer with the supplied cable, and the brochure appears as a removable drive. From there, you can remove the existing video and copy in a replacement file.
For most projects, we recommend MP4 video files. The right resolution, file size, and encoding depend on the screen size and memory selected for your video brochure.
The basic process is straightforward:
- Connect the video brochure to your computer by USB.
- Open the brochure’s storage drive.
- Delete or rename the old video file if needed.
- Copy the approved replacement video onto the device.
- Safely eject the device before unplugging it.
- Open the brochure and test playback, buttons, chapters, and audio.
A video brochure does not need Wi-Fi, an app, or a cellular signal to play the video stored inside it. That makes USB loading especially useful for sales presentations, leave-behinds, event kits, and controlled environments where you want the same message to play every time.
What You Can Update
USB loading can update more than one video. If your custom video brochure has buttons or chapter navigation, you can replace individual clips while keeping the printed piece in circulation.
That gives a sales team practical flexibility. For example, a product launch brochure might begin with a brand story, product demonstration, customer testimonial, and call to action. When the product changes, you can replace the demonstration or testimonial rather than discard the brochure.
Before ordering, decide whether your campaign needs:
- One autoplay video
- Multiple button-activated videos
- A photo slideshow
- PDF documents or presentation files
- Audio tracks
- Reusable units for sales representatives or events
We configure the memory capacity, button layout, and playback setup around that plan. A brochure designed for a one-time direct mail campaign has different needs than a reusable B2B enterprise sales leave-behind.
Where NFC Fits In
NFC, short for near-field communication, does not rewrite the video stored on a video brochure. It gives the recipient a tap-to-connect option that opens digital content on a compatible smartphone.
Think of NFC as the bridge between your printed package and your live campaign.
A recipient can tap their phone to access:
- A current product page
- A booking or calendar link
- An updated presentation
- A campaign landing page
- A downloadable spec sheet
- A fresh video hosted online
- A form for requesting a meeting or quote
This matters when information changes frequently. A real estate team may want to update listing details. A financial advisor may need the latest market commentary. A medical device company may need to route prospects to current product documentation.
The video brochure still delivers the first impression offline. NFC gives the recipient a simple path to the next step, where your team can keep content current.
USB vs. NFC: Which Is Right for Your Campaign?
Use USB loading when the on-device video itself must change. This is the right choice for reusable brochures held by your sales team, shown at trade shows, or sent back and forth among stakeholders.
Use NFC when the printed piece and stored video can remain the same, but the destination needs to stay live and flexible. It is ideal for campaigns with changing offers, inventory, event details, or follow-up content.
Many of our strongest projects use both:
1. The video brochure opens with a polished, offline-ready message.
2. The recipient taps NFC to visit a current landing page.
3. Your team tracks response and follows up based on the action taken.
That combination protects the impact of a physical video piece while giving your campaign a digital layer that is easier to maintain.
Plan for Updates Before Production
The ability to update content starts with the production plan. We ask clients how long the brochure will be used, who will manage updates, and whether the video needs to change in the field.
If your sales reps will update units themselves, we recommend keeping the file structure simple and providing a clear naming convention. If several videos are involved, label each button and corresponding file carefully so nobody accidentally replaces the wrong content.
For NFC campaigns, use a stable URL you control. Avoid printing a direct link to a temporary page if the campaign may run for months. A permanent campaign URL can redirect to the latest content whenever your strategy changes.
A Note on Memory and Video Files
A video brochure’s memory capacity determines how much content it can hold. A short HD brand video requires far less space than a multi-chapter presentation with several product demos.
Video length is only part of the calculation. Resolution, bitrate, audio quality, and file compression all affect storage needs and playback performance. We review the final video before loading so the piece opens quickly and plays cleanly on the selected screen.
If content updates are part of your plan, leave enough memory headroom for future files. It is a small decision up front that prevents headaches later.
Keep the Message Fresh Without Starting Over
A custom video brochure is not automatically a one-and-done marketing piece. USB loading lets you replace on-device content. NFC lets you keep the digital destination current. Used properly, both options extend the useful life of the piece and make your investment work harder.
